The first episode begins from season 4 ending where Lenny Bruce (Luke Kirby), Mrs. Maisel’s quasi-spiritual muse, addresses Miriam “Midge” Maisel (Rachel Brosnahan) after his triumphant 1961 Carnegie Hall performance in the season finale of the previous year, asking her not to view his numerous problems and arrests as something to imitate. In season five, Midge, who appears to be heeding his advice, makes an effort to smooth out some of the rough edges in her act.
