Amar married co-singer Amarjot Kaur. Amar Singer Chamkila was his stage name. On 8 March 1988 Amar including his wife Amarjot Kaur and other members were assassinated during his stage show.

Amar Singh Chamkila was married before starting his music to Gurmail Kaur from which Amar Singh Chamkila has two daughters Amandeep and Kamaldeep.
